Volunteer Teaching in Bolivia The Universidad Mayor de San Simón is one of Bolivia's 10 public universities and offers higher education to over 43,000 students who come from Peru, Brazil, Chile and other South American countries. The opportunity to assist professors allows volunteers to learn all about the higher education system in Bolivia, as well as interact with professionals in many different areas: Grammar, Linguistics, Translation, Literature, Sociology, Philosophy of Education and Language and many more.

Volunteer Teaching in Ghana English is an official language of Ghana, but most children first learn an Africa language like Twi, Ewe and Ga so their English is weaker. Volunteers are placed mainly in schools in the Akuapem Hills, around 1 hour north of Accra the capital, where they teach conversational English to children between the ages of 5 and 14.

Volunteer Teaching Peru We are working closely with the Peruvian Education Ministry on a 5-year scheme to update the English curriculum for the Andean region. Twenty three schools in and around the Sacred Valley between Cusco and Machu Picchu were selected to join the pilot programme. Until 4 years ago, the schools in Peru's Sacred Valley did not offer English on their curriculum.

Volunteer Teaching Romania After assisting the teacher for a few lessons, the volunteer will be able if they want to take the class alone, although the teacher will always be available to assist if necessary. Volunteers should follow the Romanian curriculum, but they are also welcome to bring their own ideas to the classroom.

Volunteer Teaching in Senegal The first Projects Abroad Summer Programme was organised in 2005. There are at least three months of summer holiday in Senegal, leaving many children at a loose end. The Projects Abroad programme provides a fun, educational and safe environment for youngsters and adults of all ages, and is open to anyone who wants to attend.

Volunteer Teaching in South Africa Volunteers are needed to teach English, which is especially important for a student's future education and job prospects. The programme welcomes not just English teaching, but also teaching sport, music, art, other life skills and sometimes even cookery; so please let us know if you'd like to use your extra interests on this project.

Volunteer Teaching in Sri Lanka Sri Lankan school days run from 8am-2pm, and are broken down into 8 separate 40 minute periods, with a twenty minute break for "lunch" at around 11am. Volunteers with Projects Abroad are expected to teach 18 hours per week, so most volunteers teach around 4 periods per day, and spend their afternoons preparing for the next day's lessons and sometimes attending a local orphanage or tsunami relief camp to teach yet more English in the afternoon!

Volunteer Care in Bolivia Our Care and Community placements are in the area of Cochabamba, where volunteers work in a number of day care centres and orphanages, some with special needs children. Volunteers work with all ages from children as young as 2 to adults of 35. On average they work 8 hours per day from Monday to Friday.

Volunteer Care in India Projects Abroad send volunteers to a number of orphanages in the areas of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Here they work with children between the ages of 2 and 18. On a typical day, the volunteer arrives at the orphanage as early as 6am to help the children wash, dress, eat and generally get ready for school.

Volunteer Care in Mexico Our care placements in Mexico are either in Guadalajara or Ciudad Guzman. Volunteers work in orphanages, schools for the blind, a Down's Syndrome Centre or a home for AIDS patients. Not only do volunteers provide much-needed support for the permanent staff but they also contribute to the well-being and all-round development of the children by washing, feeding and dressing them, and simply being with them.

Volunteer Care in Moldova We work with a number of orphanages in and around Chisinau. Volunteers are able to help the local staff who have too much to do. There are opportunities to work with a range of age groups. You can help out with young babies keeping them occupied and entertained. With older children you are required to play games, help with homework or even teach them some English.

Volunteer Care in Mongolia Volunteers are placed in one of twenty orphanages in Ulaanbaatar. Here they work alongside dedicated staff to provide practical help as well as the friendship and support the children need - and which the local staff don't have time to give. The children range from young babies to school age, and there can be as many as two hundred in one orphanage, or as few as fifteen.

Volunteer Care in Nepal Our programmes based around Kathmandu aim to help disadvantaged young people. Volunteers can work to try to give street children a fresh start in life with a basic education, though sometimes the concentration is on the more immediate need for decent food. Other projects with children include helping in a home for victims of domestic violence and working in health centres for malnutrition, mental disabilities and hearing problems.

Volunteer Care Romania Projects Abroad work with small orphanages in and around Brasov where volunteers work with all ages from babies to 16 year-olds. Despite international awareness of the plight of Romanian orphans, there remain large numbers of neglected children throughout the country who need daily attention. All of the orphanages are keen to have volunteers with new ideas and energy to help the permanent staff.

Volunteer Conservation in Mexico The Olive Ridley Turtle lays its eggs on the sandy beaches of the Pacific Coast of Mexico. Unfortunately it has rapidly become an endangered species over the past twenty years. Projects Abroad have set up a camp and research centre to try to preserve this species. The camp is called Campamento Tecoman and is located on the beach itself. Here our volunteers work along side.

Volunteer Conservation in Peru Based in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest, alongside the famous Madre de Dios river, The Taricaya Centre is our own lodge and your home for the duration of your stay. Conservation in Peru is a project for the more adventurous. Access to the lodge is an hour river-boat journey from the town of Puerto Maldonado. You will be living with up to thirty other volunteers and a resident spider monkey!

Volunteer Conservation in South Africa The Trans-Frontier Conservation Project in Southern Africa is a government-run initiative designed to conserve areas of great biodiversity. A protocol was signed between the governments of South Africa, Mozambique on 22 June 2000 to open their borders to allow for the conservation of trans-boundary ecosystems. Together these three countries work to conserve local wildlife, mountain ecosystems and African cultures.

Volunteer Conservation in Sri Lanka In Sri Lanka Projects Abroad work in partnership with the Department for Wildlife Conservation (DWC) who run various projects throughout the island including a national park in Bundala in the far south. We send volunteers to Bundala National Park to help with a government-funded Turtle Conservation Project. Sea turtles are in danger of being wiped out by natural predators such as wild boar, dogs, rats and scorpions, as well as poachers who steal turtle eggs to sell.

Volunteer Inca Projects in Peru The Inca Projects volunteers are based in Huyro in the La Convencion province. Huyro is about a three hour journey from our main office in the Sacred Valley and has an internet cafe and many small shops. The work that volunteers are involved in consists of three main areas; archaeology, community work and expeditions. Volunteers live in a community house close to the centre of Huyro with a family of Projects Abroad staff that will cook and look after you.

Volunteer Sport in South Africa Situated on a safe beach with access to a lagoon and its own swimming pool, the resort-style camp provides holidays for children from a wide range of backgrounds. You'll act as a camp counsellor, taking charge of diverse activities and supervising the children during their stays. For every volunteer that participates in this programme, a disadvantaged local child will be sponsored to attend the camp.

Volunteer Medicine in Argentina Those who are looking to study medicine at university will find that by shadowing doctors and watching medical procedures they will learn a great amount on a placement and gain experience that would simply not be possible in their home country. The project is also open to elective students and depending on their level of experience it may be possible to assist on a practical level.

Volunteer Archaeology in Romania There is a rich history which is just waiting to be discovered and researched, starting with the Neolithic Gumelnita culture, going through ancient Dacians and Romans and continuing with medieval times in Transylvania. The Dacian civilization, one of the biggest mysteries in the country, is a main focus of the archaeology project. Also, because of the great role witches have played in the history and development of Romania, the Saxon fortified churches are another focus.
